Paprika Powder (Sweet or Smoked)
- Made from dried and ground varieties of Capsicum annuum peppers, mostly bell and chili peppers.
- Most commonly viewed as a culinary herb. The spiciness depends on the proportion of seed, rind, and fruit in the ground powder.
Suggested Use: The flavor of paprika is similar to that of sweet bell peppers, sometimes said to have a very mild citrusy undertone. The flavor of paprika can be enhanced by heating it briefly in oil. It is commonly used to season stews, soups, and meat and vegetable dishes, as well as a colorful garnish on potatoes and eggs. (Smoked Paprika has a distinct, powerful, smoky flavour.)
Storage: Store in a cool, dry, dark place in a sealed container.
